Henning Beck, neuroscientist and best-selling author, showed us the difference between self-learning algorithms and the brain and explained how to activate creativity processes in a digital environment.
A few takeaways from the webinar:
- A difference between data and ideas: the brain has its own ‘secret mental weapons’ to organize information in a unique way and that’s what makes us superior to AI algorithms. We are not interested in data itself but in what we can do about it, how we can ‘play around it’.
- Brain vs. AI: brain uses conceptual thinking in order to understand the world instead of just analyzing it.
- There is no specific ‘creativity’ area in the brain. It is a complex process which starts with ‘concentration’ on the main topic when the frontal parts of the brain are activated, then while you are asleep, deeper in the brain, another part is working on ‘prioritization’. Finally, when we ‘drift away’, when doing something different, not related to the main topic, e.g riding a bike, taking a shower, different thoughts and inspirations from the outside world are being interconnected in order to create new perspectives and ideas.
